The ten to fifteen hour CHL class I teach covers the Pretest, Firearms Knowledge,
Use of Force, Non-Violent Conflict Resolution, Firearm Storage and Safety, Basic
Marksmanship and Range Safety, Handgun Proficiency, Public Contact With Law Enforcement,
License Requirements and Restrictions, and the Final Exam and Certification.
Becoming an Outdoors-Woman Instructor

The Becoming an Outdoors-Woman program grew out of a 1990 Wisconsin study which found
that out of 21 identified reasons why more women don't participate in outdoor activities,
14 centered on lack of introductory training. The smorgasbord BOW weekends seek to remedy
that. The first ever event was held in 1991. Next year there will be BOW weekends in most
states, and a number of events in Texas. What happens at BOW?

The Texas Hunter Education course includes Our Hunting Heritage, Hunting-A Tool of
Wildlife Management, Hunter Safety and Responsibility, Modern Firearms, Primitive Sporting

courses, Home Firearms Responsibility, and Personal Protection.
